Opening Day Recap
Astounding! The First Event on the field is complete.
What a day! What a great day we had at the field on Saturday. We had over 30 kids to participate in the MLB Pitch, Hit and Run. Over 30 kids! That is truly astounding. The Pitch, Hit and Run that we went to before the May 11th event had 45 kids, and this was their 4th year. We even heard stories of events that had only 8 kids. We were truly blessed to have such a great turnout on Saturday. We have started to make real connections in the community, and it is only our first event. It will be exciting to see these relationships grow.
That’s not all! On the same Saturday we had the rose dedication ceremony for the seniors that we lost last year and completed the senior center lunch! Our incredible friend Laks did an awesome job leading the group in the Rose Ceremony. We feed over 80 seniors at the center and delivered over 60 meals to homebound members.
Between the Senior Center and the community, we served over 700 hotdogs! Thank you to all the volunteers that made this possible. We are truly blessed to have such amazing people help this program.
We are so excited about the great turnout by the community; none of this would have been possible without all the volunteers that have pitched into to help on Saturday or over the last 3 months. Thank You! Your work, dedication, and commitment do not go unnoticed.
The field has come a long way- just look at the picture in the header. I cannot look at that and not be in an awe of what has been accomplished by a focused effort of people seeking to do God’s work. They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words; my supposition is that a 1,000 words is not enough. I look at the pictures, and I am speechless; and when I can speak, I could speak for days about it.
I have attached a few photos to this communication you can see all the pictures and videos here.

There was one thing that became clear right away on Saturday; the local kids only know baseball by sight and are in desperate need of camps and clinics to understand the basics of the game. I am not talking about the infield fly rule, or what is considered a balk. I am talking about how to hold a bat and swing, throw the ball, or to even field a dribbler to second base.
At the hitting station where Tracy (aka Flash) and I were working Saturday it only took a few batters to recognize the need for some quick tips. Flash then went to the dugout and gave each participant a quick hitting lesson. After the camps and clinics this year, the next Pitch, Hit and Run will show significant progress in the kids’ skills. The community kids need to learn the basics, and we are ready to teach them and show them the skills of the game. Be on the lookout for emails and website updates that will announce our free camps and clinics coming soon.
Urgent Need – The Project 938 team has an urgent need and hope that someone on this distribution can assist. For the last few months we have had a company generously donate two storage containers that have been keep at the field for us to store equipment, tools, and materials for the renovation. We will be losing these containers on Monday May 20th. We are scrambling to find a replacement storage container quickly to keep everything on property. If you know of someone that has one to donate for a period of time or for a small usage fee, please contact Project 938’s Frank May at 817-994-6303 or frank@project938.org.
We really appreciate your assistance and dedication.
The reality is that we are ALL broken, broken together.
